Signal strength

Signal strength in access point mode

  • To secure a good signal strength, place your computer close to the vehicle/equipment with the VOCOM II device and make sure there is no/minimum obstacles (walls, other vehicles, etc.) in between.
  • Software programming is not recommended when the signal strength is weak.

  • The computer that is placed closest to the VOCOM II device plugged into a truck in the above example will have the strongest signal.
  • Access point mode of operation does not use the Wi-Fi router in any situation at all since the VOCOM II device creates its own Wi-Fi network and the computer connects directly to this network.
  • This holds true for Android mode of operation as well. The android device that is closest to the vehicle/equipment connected with VOCOM II device will receive the strongest signal.

Signal strength in infrastructure mode

  • In the infrastructure mode of operation, ensuring a strong connection is paramount since the relative distance of both the VOCOM II device and the computer from the Wi-Fi router matters.
  • Since both the VOCOM II device and the computer is connected to a common router, the further the distance from the router, the poorer the connection. When both the computer and the VOCOM II device are close to the router, the signal is strongest.
  • The presence of obstacles between the router and the computer/VOCOM II device can make the connection unstable. So, it is important that the truck with the VOCOM II device and the computer are both close to the Wi-Fi router and there are no/minimum obstacles in between.

  • The computer that is closest to the Wi-Fi router will receive the strongest signal. The computer farthest away from the Wi-Fi router will have a weak signal.
